Customize Publications Label

October 2024

Library administrators will have the ability to customize the text of the Publications label that appears in the lefthand navigation pane under Research Tools on EBSCO Discovery Service, EBSCOhost, and Explora profiles

eBook Landing Page

2025

Customers will be able to enable a landing page for their EBSCO eBook collection in new UI, supporting a browse experience and highlighting particular content in the library’s eBook collection.

Results Page Updates

October 2024

Records on the results page in EBSCO Discovery Service and EBSCOhost will be numbered to make navigating results simpler and more intuitive. Users will also be able to select the number of results they see before the “See More Results” button appears. The default view will remain as 10 records, with options to view up to 50 records.

EBSCO eBook Reader: Reintroduction for Android

The EBSCO eBook reader, currently only available for iOS, will be reintroduced for Android devices after a long anticipated update by Adobe

Dashboard Collapse

August 2024

“My Dashboard” is now collapsed by default on Explora. Users can click on the “My Dashboard” header to expand it. After expanding this menu, it will remain expanded as users navigate through the interface. Users can also collapse it again by clicking on the “My Dashboard” header, and it will remain collapsed until expanded again.

Natural Language Understanding (Beta)

January 2025

Allows for searching in the researcher’s regularly spoken language, including questions, by using AI to better understand the user’s query intent and produce an academic search accordingly.  The underlying search technology leverages our relevance ranking, thesauri mapping via the USI and authoritative metadata.  Natural language search is intended to help increase equity in research allowing anyone, regardless of their background, experience in research, or what they speak, can find information through our search.  Initially, this will be via a new separate Search Mode. 

Generative AI Insight Summaries (Beta)

November 2024

AI Insights helps users evaluate relevancy of an article to their research topic via a new button under Articles where Full Text is available (within the search results list).  The button leverages Generative AI to product on-demand short summaries of key points in the article (and is grounded in the full-text of the article).

New Interlibrary Loan (ILL) Form

September 2024

The new interlibrary loan (ILL) form is designed to seamlessly integrate with EBSCO’s New UI. This form has several enhanced features:
1. EEM Module: Easily create and manage ILL forms with the new EEM module.
2. Entitlement API Integration: Users will be informed about the availability of a copy through EBSCO full text, SmartLinks+, or Unpaywall before submitting their request.
3. EBSCO SSO Integration: Automatic population of user information with EBSCO Single Sign-On.
4. Multilingual Support: Access the form in all languages supported by EBSCO.

Publication Finder Search Box Builder

Update to Credo Reference Integration

The Credo Reference integration is now updated to use Credo’s New API. Additionally, it has moved to the top of the EDS results page.

New UI EDS Search Box Builder

The EDS search box builder is now updated to generate URLs for the New UI. It is integrated into the new EEM search box builder module and has added functionality. These changes will not affect existing EDS search boxes.

Biannual EBSCO eBooks Subject Set Releases

New Publication Finder Navigation Enhancements

Enhance New Publication Finder navigation so that Search home (now call Search Publications), Browse Databases and Browse Subjects become tabs above the search box.  The ‘Search Publications’ tab name will be customizable via EBSCO Experience Manager Configuration

Search Modes and Expanders on the Results Page

The results page now lists the selected search mode under “All Filters.” The search mode can be changed on the Advanced Search under “Search Options”. It also displays any selected Search Expanders. For more convenient refinement, a link back to “Advanced Search” is now directly available in the “All Filters” panel.

Migration of Saved Searches to New UI

Upon the institution migrating to the new UI, all active personal users will incur a migration of their saved searches, ensuring those users can view and manage these saved searches alongside those which were saved within the new UI

New hosting platform for EBSCO’s API developer portal, the EBSCO Developer Network. EDS API documentation moved from EBSCO Connect to EBSCO Developer Network.  An OpenAPI spec for EDS API will be published.

EDS API Foundational Updates

July 2024

Improve stability and delivery of EDS API to support increased demand.  There will be no change to existing endpoints and functionality. API consumers will be asked to register existing EDS API app/client use-case(s) in 2024 to receive API keys for future use.
